Longmont Trojans win over Thompson Valley High School Thursday evening 6-5. The Trojans had a slow start but tenaciously rallied to get the runs back and secure the win. The Trojans were down 0-5 in the third inning but Angeline Mitchell (P) came in from CF to P in the top of the fourth inning and shut down the Eagles. She allowed just two hits and no runs for the remainder of the game.
In the top of the fourth inning; Ayahna Bustamante (SS) singles up the middle to reach first base safely, Katrina Sabol (CF) follows with a walk, Mitchell reaches on a fielders choice. Katie Alaniz (1B) hit down the right line to score Sabol, and then Ashley Dillow (2B) hits up the middle to score another run to make the score 2-5.
The Trojans were persistent in the fifth inning to scored four more runs. Sherena Simmons (LF), Kayla Gumeson (3B), and Bustamante all singled back-to-back to the outfield. A pitching change for the Eagles then in the inning was no challenge for Longmont. Mitchell cleared the bases with a double down the right field line. Alaniz followed with another double to score Mitchell before ending the inning and concluding their runs.
Other highlights include; Katie Alaniz had 11 putouts at first base with game-saving stretches.
Longmont High will play next Tuesday October 2nd @3:30pm, hosting at home vs. Mountain View High School. The Trojans will be wearing throwback uniforms from the late 1990’s.
