Longmont Trojans softball rallied Thursday evening, October 4th, for their last home game of the regular season. They defeated Greeley Central 12-2. The Trojans allowed Greeley Central to score two runs in the top of the first inning but with the help of smart batters Katrina Sabol (CF), Angeline Mitchell (DP), and Katie Alaniz (1B) all reaching base on balls, Ashley Dillow (2B) was able to drive in two runs to tie in first inning. The Trojans shut the wildcats down on the field and did not allow another run or hit in the remainder of the game.
They continued to score five more runs in both the fourth and sixth inning. Highlights include; Grace Morrow (LF) broke the tie with a RBI double in the bottom of fourth inning to left field, Maya Kierstein (RF) followed with a double RBI as well to deep center field to score Morrow, Ayahna Bustamante (SS) followed behind and scored Kierstein as well with a double to left center. Alexa Nielsen (C) and Mitchell both went 2-3 at the plate. Sabol had three of the Trojans’ runs and had a double play with a fly out catch and throw to second base to tag the runner out. Sherena Simmons (P) had four strikeouts and allowed only 3 hits and two runs, all of which were in the first inning.
The Trojans finished their regular season games with an impressive total record of 16-6-1. They will continue their journey into regionals next Saturday, October 13th. The host site and time is TBD.
